According to St. John Paul II, the Neocatechumenal Way is “an itinerary of Catholic formation, valid for our society and our times”. It is an instrument at the service of the Bishops for the rediscovery of Christian initiation by baptized adults. Among these, the following may be identified: Those who have drifted away from the Church, those who have not been sufficiently evangelized and catechized, those who desire to deepen and mature their faith and for those who come from Christian denominations not in full communion with the Catholic Church.

El Camino Neocatecumenal es “un itinerario de formación católica, valida para la sociedad y para los tiempos de hoy” (San Juan Pablo II). Es un instrumento al servicio de los Obispos para el redescubrimiento de la iniciación cristiana por parte de los adultos bautizados. Entre estos cabe distinguir: Los que se han alejado de la iglesia, los que no han sido suficientemente evangelizados, los que desean profundizar y madurar su fe y aquellos que provienen de confesiones cristianas no en plena comunión con la Iglesia Católica.

The Neocatechumenate is lived within the parish in small communities, since the common form for the Christian initiation is communitarian. Themodel of these communities is the Holy Family of Nazareth, the historical place where the Word of God, made man, becomes adult, growing in wisdom, age and grace, submitted to Joseph and Mary. In the community the neocatechumens become adult in faith, growing in humility, simplicity and praise, submitted to the Church.

The Neocatechumenate consists of the initial catechesis, that are the talks given for several weeks and these finish with a retreat in which a new community is formed. The communities “walk” or develop their life in the Church based on three fundamental elements of Christian life and these are: Word of God (each community has a liturgy of the Word of God once a week), Liturgy (Celebration of the Eucharist in small communities on Saturday night, and this becomes part of the Sunday Masses of the parish and it’s open to anyone who would like to participate) and Community (which is a monthly retreat of one day to pray lauds or morning prayer and then to share with the community)

El Catecumenado es vivido dentro de la parroquia en pequeñas comunidades, dado que la forma completa o común de la iniciación cristiana de los adultos es la comunitaria. El modelo de la comunidad neocatecumenal es la Sagrada Familia de Nazaret, lugar histórico donde el Verbo de Dios, hecho Hombre, se hace adulto creciendo en “sabiduría, edad y gracia” estando sometido a José y María. En la comunidad los neocatecumenos se tornan adultos en la fe, creciendo en humildad, simplicidad y alabanza, sometidos a la Iglesia.

El Neocatecumenado consta de las catequesis iniciales que son las charlas que se dan por varias semanas, luego de las cuales hay un retiro en el cual se forma la comunidad. Las comunidades “caminan” o desarrollan su vida en la iglesia basado en tres elementos fundamentales que son: Palabra de Dios (cada comunidad tiene una liturgia de la Palabra un día entre semana), Liturgia (Celebración de la Eucaristía en pequeñas comunidades, el sábado a la noche, formando parte de la pastoral litúrgica dominical de la parroquia y están abiertas también a otros fieles) y Comunidad (que es la convivencia una vez al mes en la cual se celebran los laudes, u oración de la mañana, y luego se comparte).

Vocations – Vocaciones

The Neocatechumenal Way has around 110 Seminaries for the formation of priests in the whole world. One of these Seminaries has been established in Brooklyn and there are already 3 priests ordained for this Diocese, and as of 2019 there are 15 seminarians in formation. The seminarians come from communities from all over the world and are those who have accepted the call to the priesthood that is usually made in vocational encounters like in World Youth Day pilgrimages or at local pilgrimages. There are also a vocational call for girls to enter the consecrated life.

El Camino Neocatecumenal tiene alrededor de 110 Seminarios para la formación de Sacerdotes en todo el mundo. Uno de estos seminarios se encuentra en esta Diócesis (Brooklyn), del cual ya se han ordenado tres sacerdotes que están sirviendo en la Diócesis, y hasta el 2019 tiene 15 seminaristas en formación. Los seminaristas provienen de comunidades de todo el mundo y son aquellos que han aceptado el llamado al sacerdocio que usualmente se hace en encuentros vocacionales como los peregrinajes a la Jornada Mundial de la Juventud o a peregrinajes locales. También en es tos peregrinajes se hace el llamado vocacional a las chicas para entrar en la vida consagrada.
